"White supremacy is what is destabilizing the earth system, not ‘humanity.’"
The daily routine of most adults is so heavy and artificial that we are closed off to much of the world. We have to do this in order to get our work done. I think one purpose of art is to get us out of those routines. When we hear music or poetry or stories, the world opens up again. We’re drawn in — or out — and the windows of our perception are cleansed, as William Blake said. The same thing can happen when we’re around young children or adults who have unlearned those habits of shutting the world out.
Ursula Le Guin
“ … for Black academics to produce legible work in the academy often means adhering to research methods that are ‘drafted into the service of a larger destructive force thereby doing violence to our own capacities to read, think, and imagine otherwise.”
Christina Sharpe, In the Wake: On Blackness and Being
To progress, we must reprogram what it means to be productive.
We operate within a system built on consumerism & the target is set on the material, the product of physical exertion.
An endless cycle of action & anticipation.
Perhaps the antidote we seek lies in resistance?
In pursuing rest as retribution & in doing so, receive adequate resource to achieve alignment & resonance.
I call this, the product of progress manifest in the non-physical.
“To me the important thing is not to offer any specific hope of betterment but, by offering an imagined but persuasive alternative reality, to dislodge my mind, and so the reader’s mind, from the lazy, timorous habit of thinking that the way we live now is the only way people can live. It is that inertia that allows the institutions of injustice to continue unquestioned.”
— Ursula K. Le Guin, A War Without End
"We are so colonized by a culture that insists that individual aspiration, appetite, and satisfaction are the hallmarks of well-being. We are so colonized by that idea that it has produced a culture that is itself not well.
We have reached a point where, instead of thinking about where we are, either locally or globally, as a living, interconnected, and interdependent system, we think of it rather as a stockpile of resources for feeding our own repetitive scenarios of growth and dominance. The only well-being is interbeing. "
"The war has already begun, and you did not notice because your side won.
The lifestyle that you have right now is built on colonialism. It's built on great armies of land pirates that marched out into the corners of the world and stole everything worth having... and killed anyone who got in the way."
