Polysonics is a community of sound practitioners whose work engages with the politics of sound through activities that enable alternative paradigms of intersectional communication, counter-histories, and marginal perspectives to emerge. The group engages in research into the politics of sound through critical sound practice and theory, challenging current research approaches associated with sound studies, music, art, design, urban, environmental, communication and media studies, de/post-colonialism, anthropology and philosophy. By growing a network for critical sound practice with other academic institutions, individual practitioners and third sector organisations the group aims to not only rethink and re-evaluate the role of sound in communication, but to also take into account and respond to unprecedented changes in an era of pandemic and technological, cultural, (geo)political and social transformation.
