Print Rationale:
My conference is themed around music, as this is not often considered in a design context. For my rhetorical approach I have mimicked the circular shapes of records and CDs and used abstract patterns and bright colours that represent different genres of music and soundwaves. The title “Off the Record” is a comedic play on words, we are designing the cover which goes on the record. The poster is an obvious representation of this, the brochure is more abstract. I have designed my brochure as a booklet from inside a CD case, mimicking the size and layout. My experience is a literal interpretation of my rhetoric as it allows my audience to listen to the work by musicians who my designers have collaborated with, giving them something to take home. I have tried to convey a sense of nostalgia by focusing on outdated ways music is consumed. My conference is communicating the importance of album covers even in a digital age. I wanted to shine a light on the need for visuals with music and how this impacts the listening experience. During my process I learnt that sometimes it is important to look at my work with a less rigid approach, I need to allow myself more space to be creative and free, which is something I will consider in future projects.
