explorations about time as it is in our current society.
how can we rethink time? what does time look like in a post-capitalist world? what does time feel like in different points of your life? how does how we see time affect our wellbeing?
What if we measured time in breath?
I was thinking about how in fitness/gym/athletic spaces, when I stretch, I measure in seconds. "Hold this stretch for 30 seconds, etc." However, when I was practicing yoga the other day, I was measure time in breath. Hold this pose for 5 breaths, for as many breaths as you need until you release, etc."
What would the world look like if we moved at the speed of breath? If I worked, talked, lived as fast or as slow as I needed to maintain a calm and steady breath. Imagine what that could do for our nervous systems. How that would shift us to care for the individual: an acceptance of slowing down to meet another's breath or creating environments and dynamics that keep us feeling calm, safe, at rest.
The world would move much slower, but think about the collective joy that would be generated knowing everyone moved at the speed of peace. How much more happier we would all be in our work and with each other.
"Closer instead of older strikes me as a wonderful way to think about aging. I like the idea of mastery as a destination that you gradually approach over time."
