In my experience, there are really two things that lead to happiness and everything else is mostly noise. The two things are contribution and abundance.
Contribution: If you can align your life with where you have the talent to make a large, meaningful, and real contribution to the world, your circle, or your family, then you can be very happy. Wealth and improving the lives of others are tied together.
Abundance: being positive-sum. An easy way to think of abundance is that it's the anti-hater/anti-jealous mindset. If you believe there is plenty in the world for everyone and you are always happy to see people who contribute succeed, then you become part of "team contribution."
When stumped by a lifechoice, choose “enlargement” over happiness. I’m indebted to the Jungian therapist for the insight that major personal decisions should be made not by asking, “Will this make me happy?”, but “Will this choice enlarge me or diminish me?”
There will always be too much to do – and this realisation is liberating. The only viable solution is to make a shift: from a life spent trying not to neglect anything, to one spent proactively and consciously choosing what to neglect, in favour of what matters most.
Seek out what magnifies your spirit.
Patti Smith talks about writers and artists who magnified her spirit — it’s a beautiful phrase and a beautiful notion. Who are the people, ideas, and books that magnify your spirit? Find them, hold on to them, and visit them often. Use them not only as a remedy once spiritual malaise has already infected your vitality but as a vaccine administered while you are healthy to protect your radiance.
everyday I wake in this body, I am mindful to welcoming the space for what I am coining an '-ing' self.
the further ties had to the things that require a certain kind of consistency, the louder my fear would question, do I even exist if in the invisible?
but in time, I am finding more of her (peace) in the spaces between, unspoken and unseen.
freeing, being, emerging, and changing my mind.
I am found in the -ings that propel and transport me through moments in time.
"All is well, and you will never get it done. Life is supposed to be fun. No one is taking score of any kind, and if you will stop taking score so much, you will feel a whole lot better — and as you feel a whole lot better, more of the things that you want right now will flow to you.
You will never be in a place where all of the things that you are wanting will be satisfied right now, or then you could be complete — and you never can be.
This incomplete place that you stand is the best place that you could be. You are right on track, right on schedule. Everything is unfolding perfectly. All is really well. Have fun. Have fun. Have fun!"
