About two years ago, I started expressing ideas as decorative objects in the material world. There are three bodies of work that I feel like are fully realized concepts. The first is the flags series which is the first series I started working on in 2014. I wanted to paint powerful imagery in the form of fanciful beasts, ie. the glory bear, the bunny goat, and the panther. I chose to paint on flags primarily because I thought it would look cool. The second body of work is comprised of sculptures which can hang on the wall, that I refer to as dreamcatchers. I wanted to work with materials that were colorful, plastic, easily available, and that I thought would work well together. It took me several months of active visualization to come up with the final design. Having realized the design, I decided to call them dreamcatchers, which was my attempt at giving them added value. The third body of work is made up of small, lightweight sculptures. Almost all of them represent some kind of alien peristaltic plant.
Last year, I setup an online store because I didn’t want to pay for a website yet, and; although you can’t buy anything because everything is listed as “SOLD OUT”, it features some of my work and is supposed to resemble a clean, hip, NYC gallery website. Visit my site at http://dooda.bigcartel.com. In conclusion, all of my work is informed by pop culture iconology as well as ideas about spirituality and an interest in modernism.
