This class is focused on learning about and designing roleplaying games. The class will explore sub-genres such as LARPing, escape rooms, MUDs, participatory theatre and performance art, as well as experimental and more mainstream pen-and-paper and online multiplayer roleplaying games. Student projects may take a wide variety of forms, and may use digital or non-digital media to create roleplaying experiences.
Coursework will be primarily focused on designing and developing one final creative project and participating and writing about a longitudinal (7 weeks) roleplaying game experience. Additional requirements are participation in class discussions, workshops, and presentations. And attending and writing about one departmental visiting lecture.
