As for making music, the most important aspects are contemplative lyrics, ambient sounds, and above all else, authenticity. A music production software like GarageBand or Ableton is necessary in order to record and clean up music. A condenser microphone is standard but you have to keep in mind that the emotion is always going to outweigh the technical shortcomings or resources. Releasing music on SoundCloud & YouTube is the most straightforward (and free) way to start.
A few days after trying to pull myself together to create more content for HOOPLA, Sarah texted me a demo of a song she had just written and recorded that day. It was exactly what I needed to jump back into things and get myself motivated and inspired again. The song, what we're calling "quarantune," is about navigating life in quarantine. I immediately connected with the lyrics of the song and it reminded me that I wasn't the only one going through this uncertain and unnerving time. The first time I heard it, I could already see the music video playing in my head, full of collage and different styles of animation.
