Set up a shrine, but one that will be collaborative with your learning over the course of this year. A time-lapse shrine, if you will! Start with just one element of your desired area of expertise: Put out a beeswax candle if you want to become a beekeeper; wrap a piece of paper, upon which you’ve written a favorite quote from a writer you want to know better, around a tall blank candle that you can light while you read; or, place a picture in a locket or a teeny frame of the musician whose work you want to dive into. Add to this shrine as you learn something new about the subject: A favorite album that you discover along the way, a book you’ve completed, a quadrant of a map that you’ve fully explored, or a piece of the honeycomb your bees produced. Snap some photos of its development over the year so you can track your intellectual progress, as represented in this physical form.
