One method which seems to successful get ideas across the kids are games. Today, we see children and teens alike playing on their phones with the latest app. These games are addictive and they consume the attention of the young user playing them. One game in particular, is titled “Bit Life”, in which, users are to take the role of a new identity, and make decisions that will alter the course of their avatars life. These decisions come in the form of multiple choice scenario questions, and a menu of options that people can have a la carte.

The game operates in the realm of life simulation. It starts from the moment an avatar is born, and goes until the avatar dies a sweet, peaceful death, or from a horrific accident early on. The game goes into the fine details of life, by asking how much money one would like to take out for a loan to college. And ranges all the way to having your child ask for money for a toy. There is a strange sense of realism to the decision making here, and yet, there also exists a sense of still playing a game via the kitschy interface of the app itself. I had the opportunity to play two rounds recently, one in which I died a young person who was falsely imprisoned and died at young age. The other life, was wholesome and prosperous, as I grew to be an art director at a museum and lived to the age of 115. This game, with all of the strange ties to realities, then offers the question, what else can be included?
