education needs to avoid spending its time and energy on disciplining students into embodying capitalist values of efficiency, productivity, and obedience. if we regard education as a fundamental public service that should be accessible to everyone, education is a commons. as any other commons, education should be protected and defended against the pressures of capitalism to privatize, own, or influence the exchange of knowledge in society
