Ma (as in “mala”) gobo (burdock root)
I usually like any snack with “ma” flavor, (and I think it’s usually the same mix) especially if it has corns of sansho and those dried pepper rings. I could do with about 5 times the amount of peppercorns (as usual). The seasoning sticks better than to peanuts or kaki, so it comes through on each bite. There’s some sweetness to the gobo that I think is probably artificial and I could do without, as it decreases the spiciness. Good crunch, cut thinner than expected but keeps it light!
