crispy mountain choco Jirō
Crispy small “biscuit” cookies with a “milk creme” layer and milk chocolate on top. These taste great (to the extent that I don’t know why this small bag is resealable—you will be eating them all) but the real differentiator (from similar snacks) is that the biscuits have a variety of messages printed on them. Presumably these are messages from Jirō, the Sasquatch character. They’re all puns of everyday phrases where something is changed to “cho” as in “chocolate.” Like “good job” → “good chob” (it works better in Japanese where it’s purely phonetic:「グッジョブ」→ 「グッチョブ」). The flavor is similar to the countless other J snacks that are a biscuit + chocolate formula, but the milk creme adds a little something and the crunch is different than, say, a キノコの山. It’s more of a buttery crunch with “edges.” I actually could do with slightly less chocolate but keeping the other components as-is; I think the resulting crunch level would be truly special.
Overall: strong recommend especially if you can read kana and get the jokes. Definitely enjoy with a coffee as does Jirō himself!
