"Ippudo potato chips akamaru new flavor"
Had just eaten at Ippudo earlier in the day so when I saw an endcap of these at My Basket, I had to do it. There was another flavor as well, white bag (I didn’t look at what flavor it was) but I got the Akamaru Modern since that’s what I had just eaten. These chips are disappointingly generic. They’re not bad by any means, but they are a perfect example of this genre of “special type chips” that are popular limited time items in Japan. These are a platonic "orange-dust chip." They kind of all taste the same. With these there’s a hint and I mean just barely perceptible, of a sort of spice that’s reminiscent of the red koshō ball they give you in the real ramen. But it’s fleeting and definitely not remarkable. Nothing that gives you any sort of Tonkotsu flavor or creaminess or anything. Somehow even though these aren’t spicy while eating, your mouth feels slightly hot afterward. Texture is fine, kinda like a Lay’s classic but a bit thinner. I would say that the degree to which you'll find these adequate is inversely proportional to the amount of times you've had Ippudo ramen.
Overall: fine as chips but really don’t taste at all like Ippudo or even ramen.
