Explicit and Embodied hierarchies

Explicit hierarchies are ones that we may acknowledge or agree to, such as allowing certain group members to take on certain tasks on behalf of the group.

Embodied hierarchies can be understood as forms of entitlement that are either unconsciously or consciously internalized by group members.

Structures: Role and Hierarchies

Collaborative making in graphic design is typically governed by hierarchical design studio models, or the designer/ client relationship.

Hierarchies can be oppressive when they are unacknowledged and when people abuse their power, taking advantage of, manipulating, or neglecting their group members.
