Tookes Hotel

This photo was taken in front of the Tookes Hotel. Here, guests are enjoying the hospitality provided by Dorothy and James Tookes, who transformed their family home into a hotel to accommodate those who visited the segregated Tallahassee.

The hotel was established in 1948 in Frenchtown, the oldest Black community in Florida. It's still standing at 412 W. Virginia St., but hasn't been in operation since the 1980s.
