Blur Building
Diller + Scofidio
Lake Neuchâtel, Switzerland
A habitable medium designed to be featureless, scaleless, depthless, massless, surfaceless, and contextless. The Blur Building was featured at the 2002 EXPO in Switzerland. The project defies traditional ideas about the skin and structure of a building by shrouding its mass in a cloud of mist produced by high-powered jets that pull water from the lake. Its visitors are engaged by substance without form and overwhelmed with an experience of smells, sights, and sounds created by the atomized lake water.
