Saunders Architects (Todd Saunders)
Fogo Island, Newfoundland
Part of a Series of Artists' Studios through the Shorefast Foundation
This 131-m^2 Long Studio is perched on the seaside and stretches towards the water. The scheme and shape references traditional seaside buildings and fishermen's houses in the area. Internally, provisions were made for a kitchen, resting, and bathroom facilities, as well as the necessary workspace to accommodate art activities.
"The studios are remote, independent structures, set amid nature to encourage contemplation and creativity."
"The studio sits lightly on the rocky shore, part viewing platform, part shelter."
