90. Sustainable Design for Social Housing
90. Sustainable Design for Social Housing

$8000 House offers a solution to Mexico's affordable housing shortage. Designed by Tatiana Bilbao, the full-scale, Sustainable Housing prototype offers a flexible design that can respond to the different needs of each family. The house can be constructed for as little as $8,000 and up to $14,000 depending on a variety of factors including the location, the construction phase selected, and local regulations.

Through a multicultural and multidisciplinary office, the work of Tatiana Bilba Estudio tries to understand the place that surrounds us in order to translate its rigid codes into architecture. It tries to regenerate spaces in order to humanize them as a reaction to global capitalism, opening up niches for cultural and economic development. Among her many projects, Bilbao has worked in conversation with developers and communities to design high-quality, low-income housing across Mexico.
