“Ask ‘are you choking?’
Call 911 if person can’t speak or breathe.”
We asked eleven designers to create posters that explain what to do if someone is choking — you know the ones, you see them in restaurants, hidden away behind the counter. The results are wide-ranging, from straight-forward typography to comics, 3D rendering, and wild illustration. Some put utility at the forefront of their design, abiding by ADA rules and serving public safety. Others lean further toward the abstract – to the point where, if someone did happen to be choking, well, the poster might not be of great assistance.
