The term atmosphere is a key term when discussing buildings, or, more precisely, the effect of buildings on human perception. I consider the term to be helpful in digital environments as well, to highlight the crucial role of intangibles that exist in the liminal spaces between visual design, user interface design, copywriting/content and code-writing.
Peter Zumthor coined the term in his book Atmospheres, in an attempt capture the complexity of spatial situations.
