The idea of 'propaganda' probably makes us think firstly of Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia, where government control of media was both total and omnipresent. Authoritarian social control of such breadth seems almost a historical quirk, confined to precisely the twentieth century. Nowadays, information flow is barely restricted, or even possible of being restricted.
