“The text is simultaneously shared by several disciplines, while also exposing those disciplines not merely to the borders they share, but to their limits as formations of disciplinary power. The text was not produced by any of the disciplines that came to share it as a subject; instead it was produced by a confluence that, to use Freud’s term, “overdetermined” it. This means that the text is within disciplinarity, but in a manner that captures the constitutional instability of disciplinary power—an instability rooted in the alterity that pressures discipline to develop and expand. For this reason textuality must be distinguished from interdisciplinary research without abandoning it, which is why I have argued that it makes more sense to conceive of the text as an antidisciplinary field.”
