Marketing communications are only one such source, and marketed consumer products has only one source of meaningful possessions. Indeed, many of our most meaningful possessions are not marketplace commodities at all, but things without much monetary value such as heirlooms received from parents, photographs of family and friends, exchanges of dinners and parties, gardens and collections.
