In the Dry Valleys, food webs are particularly isolated compared to other soil food webs, which should reduce the recruitment of lower trophic level species for their consumers. The low connectivity of the food webs in the Dry Valleys is thus expected to translate into lower immigration and higher extinction rates. This is expected to create high spatial and temporal variability in species composition and richness, and contributes to food webs dominated by generalist primary consumers with very few secondary consumers
What is the relation between collective behavior and self-interest and, related to this question, how may we redefine the organism-environment relationship? What can happen when species meet on a petri dish or in an imaginary environment through wondrous artefacts? Our search for empathic, sensory, careful and ethical encounters with the microcosm may very well contribute to figuring future meetings with microbes that respect experiences of difference, strangeness and otherness as a crucial moment in coming to know ourselves.
And how do we fit inside
And where will the hammocks sing
And if we die and if we die
Kansas City is A PLACE
there are tiny red nails
like for your fingers, in the dirt
The dirt is a place we can visit
and do often.

I see everyone as writing the same poem, only in many voices. We're all writing the poem of our time, everyone differently.
