Goby is a desktop application I’m developing in my personal time. Currently I describe it as an interface for creating and managing personal databases. Compared to existing tools that fall under that umbrella, I want Goby to prioritize things like personal data ownership, durable and transparent file format (SQLite), and referential compatibility with assets stored in different places (desktop files, web URLs, raw text, etc).
Past ways/places that I've described/shown goby:
“an interface for organizing information and visualizing it in tables and graphs…Goby was originally a web app that enriched Are.na channels with metadata. But it’s now expanding to a project about structuring and representing data stored anywhere you want according to logical patterns.” — are.na description
I’m finding with the goby.garden website that it’s really nice to see the date that a block was added — scrolling through the feed of the journal channel, it lets me temporally contextualize changes in the project/my thinking, which at this point go back two years. Recently I implemented the same feature on my personal site, and I’m thinking that it would be nice if goby similarly recorded when items are first created and give you the option to display that information.
