you find things/ you go to meet a friend
what do you need to make a set of woods feel like a place you can walk? a big set of woods that leads to a town/ you can look and see clothes or flowers or bits of text from the friend you are meeting - BUT you can't touch or hold or keep any of it.
an instant image of the place is the map; the walking around is the hallway
on completion ; an unfinished game may provide more of a life to the player. - What has the player decided to collect or not collect? What have they decided to dress themselves in? Who have the decided to be? What have they decided to skip?
These things dissolve upon the games completion perhaps * but they live in the same place that makes the little clump of pixels feel like a forest and not a screen
