Following Carlo Rovelli, the only law in physics that describes a past and future is entropy. The higher the entropy, the more chaotic and uncertain. The lower, the more ordered and fixed. The process is irreverible, like the arrow of time.
The question is who is deciding upon what order looks like? Depending on the parameters we use, order and chaos can look very different, as well as the perception of past and future can be looked upon very differently. Since the past is perceived as not changing anymore, it can be put into order easily by applying patterns.
