It is likely that people will live in increasingly smaller spaces, and the table has inherited a more multi-functional role for work, leisure and consumption.
The Dutch supplier of decorative and constructive sheet material Baars & Bloemhoff has invited us to use their materials in a product for the exhibition Transitions during the Dutch Design Week October 2015 together with 5 other design studios.
The Alpi collection from Baars & Bloemhoff contains wonderful Italian veneers. We came up with the idea of using these for one of the most commonly used pieces of furniture, the table. It's a piece of furniture where people eat, talk and work. Our table, called Otto, is easy to extend, making it twice the size when you turn the legs out. The tabletops feature a different veneer on each side, which can be flipped for ever changing occasions. For us the different colours and surface types have specific relations to the sort activity that the table is being used for.
