Unlike most books, “artist books” are works of art that artists make taking "book" as a medium. Other than considering readability, book as "a mobile sculpture," a vehicle of culture and concept, different possibilities of an exhibition presented through the integration with other media, all become vital components in making artist books. Artist books are published in limited editions or unique copy. “on paper Artist Books” launched by on paper Studio, has presented two exhibitions, "on paper one" and "on paper two" at zapbeijing and White Space, respectively. For this project, a hand-pick selection from these two exhibitions will be on view. Moreover, "a one and a two" refers to jazz players counting rhythm before the "start" of a performance. The shuffling rhythms in jazz music resonate with the reader's freedom in shifting their gaze, moving their hands and wonderous minds in "reading" artist books. This exhibition hopes to take the viewers in exploring the appeal and diversity of the "artist book" as an artistic medium.
