PowerCubes is a series of 23 photo essays examining the cultural imaginary of two imperial cities: Washington D.C. and Vienna, Austria. These images document a wide range of political institutions, contemporary social spaces, civic buildings and domestic architectures. Each essay consists of six pictures graphically arranged as an unfolded cube and printed on a sheet of cardstock. When cut, folded and assembled in acrylic boxes these sites can be handled, juxtaposed, stacked and recombined with other locations, creating new associations across time and space.
Sites include: (in Washington D.C.) US Capitol, Watergate Hotel, Botanical Garden, Pentagon, White House, Russian Embassy, Comet Pizza, Hilton Hotel, Department of Energy, Library of Congress, Drug Enforcement Agency (in Vienna, Austria) Botanischer Garten, Hafen Albern, Julius Meinl, Parlament, FLUCC, Wiener Postsparkasse, Sonnwendviertel, Werkbundsiedlung, Viktor Adler Markt, Volksoper, Z-Bank, Zukunftshof.
