The general consensus from these critics is that Castell does not take into account that once you take part in a network society, you are a different person, and the network itself will also be different. You integrate the system into yourself, and vice versa.
Bernard Stiegler says that if you are in a network, you are part of the data base. By looking something up, you alter the data base. You have consulted it. The database itself changes as you interact with it. The database will abuse you for deviating from the norm.

Next on this channel I am going to link information on three critics of Castell's writing on the network society.

Castells and the Network Society
Castells and the Network Society

Network Society:
Network thinking goes deep into how we design the world.
It is powered by a network of information. It began in the transition from industrial age to the information age. It is the social structure of this new age (information age/ digital age). It is the dominant form of social information. The network society can expand and contract. Social networks play a large part in this network age. We are attached to the web, to information, by automation and devices we can hold in our hand, not by location or proximity. We can use our phones to contact anyone or access almost any information at any time. These interactions transcend realms.
