A lot of people think qual research is easier than quant. They are so wrong. Good qual research requires abstract thinking, synthetic ability, and interpretive creativity. Quant research can be done with just stats.
So all you in my mentions on about how quant requires thought too, yes yes, obv. My point is basic descriptive stats can be done by almost anyone. Basic descriptive qual cannot.

I'd argue that in the current research culture quant researchers aren't given enough space to exercise these skills while qual researchers aren't given enough credit for them.

IMO both types of research require a similar amount of effort. Good quant research is 70% prep, 30% analysis, good qual is is 30% prep 70% analysis. And exactly right, each has an important role to play.
