when is art honest? I have been asking myself this question, but I am happy to say I dont know the answer. because not all questions should end in answers; some questions are meant to open further questions and that is how knowledge comes. what I can say, is that there is a creative itch in people who want to create. that itch either comes from a survival instinct or an identity instinct. if you have the first. if you make art in order to survive, then I think your art will open a channel of honesty and it will sleep well within the receiver. in this sense, you are providing a service first, then an artwork. but, if you create art because you want to identify with something, then I feel like your head will swell up and the only space you take up, is the space of yourself. you put art out, sure, but I dont think it enters other people in the way honest art that provides a service without trying so, does.

you're not obsessed with finding your own 'art style', you're obsessed with finding your unique value proposition. you're obsessed with developing your brand identity. you're obsessed with positioning your art as a memorable product in the minds of consumers so that you may have a chance at competing with all the other 'art brands' out there.

in the pursuit of your aimless, shallow obsession, and at the expense of wanting to turn your art into a business, you've forgotten why you turned to art in the first place.

your art is not about how many people like your work your art is about if your heart likes your work if your soul likes your work it’s about how honest you are with yourself and you must never trade honesty for relatability
