when is art honest? I have been asking myself this question, but I am happy to say I dont know the answer. because not all questions should end in answers; some questions are meant to open further questions and that is how knowledge comes. what I can say, is that there is a creative itch in people who want to create. that itch either comes from a survival instinct or an identity instinct. if you have the first. if you make art in order to survive, then I think your art will open a channel of honesty and it will sleep well within the receiver. in this sense, you are providing a service first, then an artwork. but, if you create art because you want to identify with something, then I feel like your head will swell up and the only space you take up, is the space of yourself. you put art out, sure, but I dont think it enters other people in the way honest art that provides a service without trying so, does.
