SOLS/SOLOS/SOILS is an exploration of process-based practices and healing through community craft making.
Taking its premise from Turning Grounds (2022), a self-initiated and site-specific residency that mutated into a transcontinental and intergenerational collective sculpture.
Through engagement with traditions and knowledge and using cultural heritage as a tool of empowerment, the creative processes look at the dichotomy between long-time-based organic craft practices versus high-speed production and industrial waste, with an interest in the idea of performing productivity and labour in a time of collective healing.
Turning Grounds uses artistic methodology and a process-driven practice to research the sustainability of materials and their potentialities, to be re-used, mutated, or left behind, at the same time stimulating human interaction and connection, creating moments of collective resilience in community-based contexts.
