What is the data you would like to track?

Times I thought about having coffee and the times I had it

How ~soft~ do you think this data is? In other words, how fuzzy, or subjective do you think it is?

Times I thought about having coffee is pretty soft but the number of times I actually did so will be hard.

Why are you interested in tracking this data?

I am trying to cut down on the number of cups per day I consume. By the end of last semester, I was having way too many cups and I am afraid it might contribute to making me more anxious.

What insights do you think this data will reveal?

I hope by tracking this information I will be able curtail the amount of coffee I consume. It might also lend some insight into the total physical quantity (litres/grams of coffee) I consume in an average week. All consumption, especially of something as political as coffee, has external costs (environmental…). I hope that tracking will allow me to calculate the larger implications of my consumption.

What do you think this data will look like? (for example, if you are tracking the number of hours you sleep, do you think you get about 8 hours per night?)

I have never consciously tracked this data but I think I drink an average of 6-8 cups a day on a weekday and around a cup a day on the weekend.

How are you going to collect this data? (For example, I’m going to use a fitness app to track my walking data or I’m going to carry a small notebook with me everywhere I go so I can write down everytime I think of my partner)

I am going to record it on my phone using a tracking app.

How will you record this data? (i.e. an excel spreadsheet, handwritten notes, etc)
If you were to put this data in a spreadsheet, what might the column headers be? For example, if I track my text message conversations, I might have a heading for the date, the time, the subject matter (one of five predesignated categories), and the recipient.

I am going to use an excel/google spreadsheet. The column headers will include the
- date (date)
- thought about it (bool)
if true:
- acted on the thought (bool)
if true:
- amount of coffee (int)
kind if coffee (string)
- did I make it or buy it? (string)
