A website that’s designed for lying in bed.
A website that you can tell you got home safe, and that wakes you up in the morning with an image to say how happy it is that you got home safe.
I’m really wary of conversations that get too deep into fear, concerning social media. Ultimately I’m really interested in building power and resiliency in my communities, and I feel like so much of critical tech education focuses on really alarmist, urgent language? I just can’t vibe with it. Institutions of fear and paranoia are white supremacist institutions.
As long as we continue to design solutions that demand all of our attention, it will be nearly impossible to break out of the “disempowering product” paradigm. Too often, our screen obsession keeps us from even considering the many other creative and powerful ways we could be using the web’s capabilities.
There is no World Wide Web, but many worlds of webs, wherein different groups with particular aims and interests bump into and overlap with one another.
