Interaction design, often abbreviated as IxD, is "the practice of designing interactive digital products, environments, systems, and services."
Rather than analyzing how things are, interaction design synthesizes and imagines things as they could be. This element of interaction design is what characterizes IxD as a design field as opposed to a science or engineering field.
I was thinking this morning about how I try to frame deliverables a bit like sending friends/family a gift package. A great package of gifts shows the receiver(s) that you understand them and that you can add something meaningful to their life. It should include a collection of things which provide a little something for everyone. Things they need, things to push them, surprise, delight, a snack they can tear into right away, some tea or coffee they can enjoy at a later date, something funny, a letter, you get the idea.
