Using Are.na and print.are.na, we will generate and publish the second thematic volume of the series Silicon Plateau, which explores technology, culture and society in the Indian city of Bangalore. Dubbed "the Silicon Valley of Asia", Bangalore—once a quaint town—is now a multicultural mega city where tradition and innovation combine, with walled-off IT parks, street markets equipped with digital payment facilities, and online portals for religious ceremonies. Our artistic and anthropological research focuses on technological vernacular; Are.na’s framework will support the cultivation of our transdisciplinary community—spread across the Indian subcontinent—and the nurturing of a transnational discussion, free of local censorship. Are.na will become a repository for research, original artworks, essays, interviews and observations, with the printed book the physical culmination of our collaborative research, presented as a series of events in local digital-service spaces like ‘Xerox shops’ and phone recharge hubs.
