Racism is a social construct and hierarchy, the ideology of white superiority - discrimination and prejudice against people based on skin colour.
The modern concept of race was created by and for the empowerment of those who qualify as white, and this is the heart of what racism is and how it operates. Contrary to dictionary definitions created by white people to maintain white innocence, racism is a global system of race-based hierarchy, oppression, and discrimination created by and for the benefit of white people.
So one’s privilege is just the extent to which you have been allowed to be an individual.” This is why white people have so much of it, because they’re just out there thinking that they don’t have race. They don’t see race, race doesn’t affect them, they’re universal. Whereas like, you know, someone who doesn’t have that never gets to be an individual, they’re first a member of whatever race they are before they are a person. This is to me an interesting measure of how we understand ourselves.
