Paper Interface | Cell-free Biosensor
The series of paper interface objects are designed at Ginkgo Bioworks by Yasaman Sheri. Embedded with cell free biological sensors, they are visions of embedding intelligence in to everyday materials such as paper. Biosensors, often manifested as proteins, have the capacity to sense beyond the limits hardware sensors. Molecules and chemicals, toxins, hormones, flavours, smells, genetic changes are explored in these series of sketches not only as input but also as new types of sensing for design interactions. The objects are not only usable and augmented visions of enhanced awareness, but they also set to question, provoke and critique the nature of sensing, augmentation and ultimately the politics of access.
